Some recents thoughts

I've been reflecting on my life, knowing what I do now, and what would I have done differently. I'm not going to go into everything, as that would be a novel, or case study!

Question: Should I disclose my autism when applying for jobs?

My thought: I you should. What would be the outcome? You get rejected; well they wouldn't adapt to your needs and likely have a toxic environment. You get interviewed/ accepted; could be an employer who willing to make adjustments and is interested in your skills.

Don't forget autism is a medically diagnosed disability, therefore in the UK, protected by the disability act.

Question: What do we want as a community? There are many slogans, strap lines, etc. The puzzle piece; autism awareness, autism acceptance, etc.

My thought: I want far greater awareness, but I want that to be attached to knowledge. The facts of neurodiversity, not misinformation or prejudice. I don't want sympathy, I don't want to be treated as a 'special case', I don't want to be treated as diseased, I don't want to be seen as something to fear, I don't want to be judged for my traits and needs.

I want equality.

(here I could go hyperfocus and deliver a long lecture on my perception of equality, society, politics, money, history. But I'll spare you :-))

Take care
